The best way to either start or end your day in Madrid is with chocolate con churros at San Gines. Located in central Madrid, they have been serving Spain's most popular breakfast since 1894. It is open 24/7 every day of the year so there is no excuse to leave Madrid without paying them a visit.
The interior is decorated with mirrors and green wood panels, with green velvet seats and marble tables. There are also many black and white photos of famous visitors. The hot chocolate is served in Spanish style - thick, dark and strong - and the churros - deep fried batter - are served hot and freshly cooked, ready for dunking.
My boyfriend and I had been talking about trying their delicious churros for a while. Last Sunday we did a cultural tour arround the city center visiting the places which had made a difference in the life of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer a famous Spanish writer of the 19th century. The tour was extremely interesting but after so much walking we needed to refuel. The perfect excuse to go to San Gines.
