Why I Love Reading

April 23, 2015

April 23rd is World Book Day. The date was chosen, according to UNESCO, to mark the day in 1616 that saw the deaths of Cervantes, Shakespeare, and Garcilaso de la Vega. The event is meant to honor authors and encourage literacy.
There are so many reasons why I love reading, it'd be impossible to outline them all. To me, reading it's much more than a hobbie, it's a way of life. Apart from being a source of entertainment is also an endless source of knowledge. It helps you unwind and relax after a stressful day. It draws you away from reality. It transports you to different places or time periods to experience things that otherwise it would be impossible to. And last but not least, you can pair it with other little pleasures such as a cup of tea with macarons or a chocolate bar.

I know many people who have left books aside and switched to e-readers. I always get into heated debate when discussing this issue: what's better books or e-readers? I understand they are lighter and it's easier to carry them around. However, there's something about touching books, turning pages...their feel and smell is part of the pleasure derived from reading. And that, my friends, can never be substituted.

In order to celebrate World Book Day I've put together some quotes which best depict my love for reading. The first one by Alan Bennett is by far my favorite.

You can find more quotes here.
You can also check out my book reviews here and here.

Are you celebrating Book Day? Do you feel related to any of the quotes above?
I'm always looking for new exciting novels to read. So tell me, what are you reading at the moment?

  6. I am a big fan of reading too!! Can't agree more. I do have an e-reader (and appreciate it now that I've been traveling a lot) but I thoroughly enjoy the tangibility of a "real" book. I love feeling the textures of pages, etc. All of it. It's an experience.

  7. I like books better than e-readers. I find it easier on the eyes to read and book and less strain than an e-reader. Great post!
