You may know by now that the reason why this blog is called Memories of the Pacific is that every now and then there is a flashback post to my time living in the Bay Area, near San Francisco. I'm in love with this city for various reasons: the variety of neighborhoods, the stunning and colorful Victorian houses, the fact that it is small but you can find everything... If I had to design the perfect city, it would be based on the City by the Bay.

Today I want to take you to one of my favorite spots: the Embarcadero. It's an avenue that goes along the bay and it's a great place to spend some quality time. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and beautiful views. It's also a great place for jogging or simply going for a walk. I'm going to take you for a stroll stopping at the best places so you can feel as if you were there. Care to join me?

La Manzana Restaurant at Hesperia Madrid

La Manzana Restaurant at Hesperia Madrid

February 15, 2016

Every year my fiance and I take turns to choose a restaurant for Valentine's Day date night dinner. Last year I chose Cafe Colon and this year he surprised me with reservations at La Manzana, a restaurant in the 5 star hotel Hesperia Madrid. La Manzana (the apple), was named in allusion to the golden apple that Hercules found in the Hesperides. The Chef Esteban Gonzalez's cuisine is characterised by the transformation of ingredients into creative and innovative dishes. Keep scrolling down to see what I'm talking about...

Few things are as typical Spanish as tapas and red wine from La Rioja. The origin of tapas is the subject of many discussions. It is said that the first tapa was simply a piece of bread placed on top of the glass to keep the flies out. Tapa literally meaning ‘cover’ or ‘lid’. Hence the concept tapas was born. The original tapas were the simplest of foods, requiring little or no preparation. As the tradition developed, tapas became more elaborate, with each region developing their own specialties.
