Parisian Girl for a Day

One of my favorite souvenirs from trips are related to craftsmanship and style. Traveling is my main inspiration when it comes to fashion. When I'm abroad I always look for unique pieces that I can't find back home. That is the case of this Aboriginal art print silk scarf that I bought in Australia last summer. Before preparing the trip, I didn't know anything about Aboriginal art. Did you know that they use a unique technique consisting of dots? The simple dot style has a hidden meaning: to disguise the sacred meanings behind the stories in the paintings. Australian Aboriginal people have no written language of their own so their artwork has helped to pass on vital information and preserve their culture and to teach the newer generations.

Style tip
Narrow long silk scarves like this one look amazing when you tie them like a big bow.

There's no question that the French beret is a huge trend this season. I've had this one from Juicy Couture for years, but I was looking for a monochrome one and this red beret from Zara is perfect and affordable. I'm not a big fan of trends but I can't resist them when they are travel related. Even though I think that Paris is overrated, I love Parisian girl style. The cute flats with skinny jeans and a tailored blazer, the designer handbags, the LBD, the nautical stripes... Basically, that classy "less is more" style.

HOW THE WORLD INFLUENCES MY STYLE
We all know that fashion trends are heavily influenced by cultures around the world. Even though runway fashion is fleeting, there are some world styles that have always (and will always) influence the way I dress:

If you are also a fan of cultural attires, I recommend you read this article from National Geographic with striking photos of cultural fashion around the world.palacio de los guzmanes leon españa

  3. I love your entire outfit! You look great! 😀 I also learned something new today regarding your scarf. I didn't know that and that's really neat and creative way of incorporating their culture in art. Beautiful scarf, btw. How was your weekend?

  6. So I love berets but I just can't get them to look cute on my head like yours does! It's such an internal struggle...I want to buy them all, but them I never wear them for fear of looking dumb! I really liked that Nat Geo article. It's amazing the items people make from the beads!

  7. As far a world fashion, I must admit I love bohemian looks that include embroidery and prints from India. You really rock that beret and I love how you tied the scarf. I have several skinny scarves and must try this. It really looks cute.

  15. I adore how cultured your post is and it's clear that you learn about the places you've traveled, and that is totally inspiring to me. You look beautiful, stylish and comfortable. That scarf really stood out to me and then as I read about the story I was even more moved. Here in Canada we have a large population of Aboriginal people from different tribes, and in particular where I live and the stories within their art work are incredible.

  18. Aboriginal art comes with great variations of patterns. It’s culture is now being preserved in Australia. Your red beret completes the overall look.

  22. I love your blog and style for those reasons Cristina because your style suits your travels and the amazing places around the world you have visited. You made some great points about style here. I love this outfit so much. The coat, scarf - loved reading about its origin and design - and beret are all beautiful on you. Like you I also love to tilt my berets a little bit off-side. As a matter of fact I featured this post on my blog this week my friend cause I loved it.
