Stanford University

If I could have chosen any university in the world, I would have chosen Stanford no doubt. Not only because it is one of the most famous and prestigious universities in the world but also because of its magnificent architecture and the fact that it is in California. Do I need to say more?
While I was living in the Bay Area I used to visit the campus often to take long walks since it was a stone's throw from my place. I liked to imagine myself walking around those buildings everyday going to class.

Stanford is located in northern Silicon Valley near Palo Alto, California. As I was curious about its history I did some research and found some interesting facts. Stanford was founded in 1885 by Leland Stanford, former governor of and U.S. senator from California and leading railroad tycoon, and his wife, Jane Lathrop Stanford, in memory of their only child, Leland Stanford, Jr., who had died of typhoid fever at age 15 the previous year. The university struggled financially after Leland Stanford's 1893 death and after much of the campus was damaged by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.

Its 8,180-acre (3,310 ha) campus is one of the largest in the United States. The University is also one of the top fundraising institutions in the country, becoming the first school to raise more than a billion dollars in a year!

Stanford faculty and alumni have founded many companies that will surely sound familiar to you including Google, Hewlett-Packard, Nike, Sun Microsystems, and Yahoo! Among its notable alumni are Reese Witherspoon, Chelsea Clinton, Jennifer Connelly and Tiger Woods.

Finally, here's a little collage with pics of the student housing. Another powerful reason to want to study there, right?
