I'm Petite and Finally Dared to Wear a Maxi Dress

Can you believe it's taken me so long to jump on the maxi dress bandwagon? Being 5'2'' I thought this type of dress wasn't for me. No matter how trendy an item is, if I think it's not going to suit me I won't buy it. Same goes for culottes or wide-leg cropped pants which I actually like.boho maxi dress petite fashion blogger

I had tried some maxi dresses previously, but I always opted for mini dresses instead. Finally, I found this long boho dress. When I saw the beautiful embroidery I was sold. It also has an Ibiza vibe that's difficult to resist. It's slightly oversized and flowy which makes it perfect to let the breeze go in and cool you off on a hot summer day. I still think that a tall gal would look like a Greek goddess in it but I do like it for petites too. What do you think?

Here's a sneak peek of my wedding shoes. Yes, I chose espadrilles. I wanted height and comfort so when I found out that Spanish brand Castañer had a bridal collection I saw the light. Someone had finally made my dream shoes. The fabric is satin and the straps are velvet so it's much more delicate and high quality than regular espadrilles. The fact that I can still wear these after the wedding is also an advantage because if I had bought a pair of white pumps I'd have never worn them again.

Photography tip: take a look at the light on the picture below. We always look for a way to get the sun shinning on my hair but this time we managed to get a kind of aura around the whole body as well. Also, since the skirt is white (but not see-through) you can make out the silhouette underneath which I think looks really nice. Always look for the best lighting options possible! Look around your shooting location before you start taking photos, it usually takes some trial and error until you figure this out but the result is totally worth it.

I've been putting together photography tips to do a "photography tricks I've learnt from blogging" post. Would you like to see posts of that sort on the blog? What photography questions do you have?

Wedding Bells: Bridal Shower Fashion and Thursday Moda Linkup!

Wedding Bells: Bridal Shower Fashion and Thursday Moda Linkup!

August 24, 2017
From now until the end of fall the blog is going to be taken over by wedding and honeymoon posts. Today we start with the Bridal Shower. Actually, this event doesn't take place in Spain, Baby Showers are starting to become popular but it's something quite recent. However, any excuse is good to talk about fashion and dresses, right?

Here are my favorites:

FOR THE BRIDE-TO-BE
In my opinion, white is the best color for the bride-to-be. However, I also love soft colors like blush.

FOR THE GUESTS
You shouldn't wear white unless the bride asks you to. Black doesn't look appropriate in my opinion either even if it's an evening event. Pastel colors and prints that aren't too bold are my favorites.

Which dress is your favorite?

LINKUP

This week I'm co-hosting Thursday Moda link-up with the sweet Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood. Click on the InLinkz button at the end of this post to share your style with us and meet other fabulous bloggers!

"Hey there friends of Cristina. I am Ada and I blog at 'Elegance and Mommyhood' - a blog about my personal style as a mom - where my 4-year old daughter Vivian joins me in from time to time with her own beautiful style. But it is also the blog of a professional who shares casual office looks from time to time and shows you all to be stylish and elegant on a budget, whether you shop at Target or Nordstrom as I do. I have been blogging for 5 years now since I was pregnant with my daughter and my style has changed some by some each year. But one thing is constant - my attention to details, love of jewelry, bright colors, pretty shoes and easy-to-wear clothes. I invite you to stop by my blog and check out my Instagram as well. Every Thursday I run a style linkup where over 100 bloggers join in to share their latest posts, you are all welcome to do the same."

The Australia Series: The Grounds of Alexandria

This post could also be titled "Quest for the perfect breakfast". Even though this isn't the first place we visited on our honeymoon, I'm sharing this first because I was so determined to go there. I had read about The Grounds of Alexandria on a blog a few years ago and I promised myself that if I ever went to Australia I'd visit "The Grounds" as the locals call it. Fortunately my husband (it still feels funny to call him that) didn't mind commuting for 45' in Sydney to get breakfast because it was totally worth it.

The Grounds are on the outskirts of Sydney so you won't see many tourists here. We went very early in the morning so the busiest place was their cafeteria with people either enjoying breakfast or grabbing a coffee to go. Since we were starving we decided to refuel first and then walk around.

WHAT WE ORDERED
We both had the most original hot chocolate ever. It's called Deconstructed Hot Chocolate. You get a mug "stained" with chocolate and a beaker with warm milk. There's also some powder cocoa on the tray. Mix it all and you get the most delicious lab experiment ever.
We paired that with Mixed Berry, Apple & Coconut Cobbler and House Smoked Salmon on Brioche. One is sweet, the other savoury but equally scrumptious. We both agreed that this is the most delicious breakfast we've had in our lives.

THE GROUNDS
With full tummies we ventured into the grounds to discover all the different areas. We started with the Soda Barn which is often used to host events.the grounds of alexandria sydney australia

Then met some new friends like the goats Ernie and Bert or Russell Crow (can you guess what animal is that?) among others...

We visited their delightful flower shop. It made me sad not to be able to buy any flowers here.

Finally we arrived at their latest addition: The Potting Shed. A "Please wait to be planted" sign welcomes you into a sea of hanging plants and terracotta pots.the grounds of alexandria sydney australia

We got back from Australia on Saturday. We had the most amazing time but it's going to take a couple of days before we fully recover. It was a looong trip! Ankles are swollen and jet lag is kicking in but it was totally worth it. I will tell you all about it and show some pictures soon but in the meantime I have more Madrid spots to show you.

This beautiful place is called Margarita Se Llama Mi Amor, probably the most amazing flower shop I've ever seen. The name means "Daisy is the name of my love" and this place is much more than a regular flower shop. As you walk in you can feel the eagerness and love with which this team works. They work hard to choose the best flowers and plants in the market to make the most beautiful bouquets and arrangements. I have a deep appreciation for creativity, hard work and work well done and this is what you will find in Margarita Se Llama Mi Amor. What makes this place stand out is the carefully curated decor, I wanted to take everything home!

Unfortunately, my dress (last seen here) is not available anymore. It's from Abercrombie & Fitch summer sale and you may still find it in some stores but not online. There's no doubt that yellow has been the color of the summer and since we still have a few weeks of great weather left I've put together a few favorites that are still available.

Don't be fooled by the gloomy sign, there's plenty of color inside... Let me take you into a world of color where you'll have the most delicious sandwiches and their famous truffled potatoes. Meet La Sanducherie, an inviting and modern spot in the center of Madrid.

At La Sanducherie you'll find characteristic flavors of food trucks around the world. The "sanduches" (Latin American name for sandwich) are created by three friends from Venezuela who share a love for traveling.

Instagram worthy restaurant and food. The bright colors lured us into La Sanducherie. We asked the friendly staff to recommend us the best sandwiches and we weren't disappointed. I ordered El Vikingo (the viking) which comes with smoked salmon, fried onion, chipotle and creme cheese. Jorge opted for having Travis Pastrami which is Ciabatta bread with pastrami, fried onion, rocket, provolone cheese and Dijon mustard.
