On Saturday the 22nd of July Jorge and I tied the knot. I barely talk about my private life on the blog but I've mentioned several times I have a fiance so I thought that this was the perfect time to introduce him. This is our love story in a nutshell: we met four years ago in my hometown and we were friends for a while before we started dating, after a year of long distance relationship I moved to Madrid with him and finally we got engaged two years ago in this beautiful restaurant.
As you can imagine I don't have the wedding pictures yet but I do have our engagement photos. Or pre-wedding photos more like... In recent years this type of photo shoot has become popular here in Spain. Instead of taking pics when you get engaged you do it a few days before the big day. It's useful for people who are not used to being in front of the camera so that they become more comfortable. Then it's also useful because you can use those photos to customize your wedding guest book or -if you do it months before the wedding- you can use them for save the date cards or wedding invitations.Apart from showing you the photos I want to give you some recommendations for an engagement or pre-wedding photo shoot. I intend to do a series of posts in the next few months to help out those preparing their wedding now that I have more time and I've experienced the whole thing in my own flesh! I will also spill all the details about my own wedding soon.
THE OUTFIT
For an engagement photo shoot outfits should be comfy and accessories kept to a minimum. I wasn't carrying a bag and my jewelry was very simple, just pearl earrings and a pearl bracelet. Plain colors and no prints are also advisable. It will make it easier to match the background. I wore this white lace dress from Abercrombie. It's from a couple years ago but still remains one of my favorites. I believe it's one of your favorites too, since that post is on the top 10 most popular. Every girl should own at least one lace dress, right? Another reason why I chose this cream one is because it's quite similar to a wedding gown. As for his outfit, he should go for something casual that matches your outfit. Jorge was wearing beige pants and a navy short sleeved shirt.
THE POSES
Be natural. Looks of complicity, smiles, soft kisses, wrap your arms around each other, hold your hands or even dance! All of those look really sweet. Practice a little bit beforehand if you think you are going to be nervous. Or there's always Pinterest for inspiration. The truth is that we didn't rehearse any of this and I actually felt more comfortable posing with him than alone. I felt that posing with someone else I could interact and get a wider variety of poses than when I do photo shoots on my own.
THE SETTING
Neutral tones are my favorite background. We chose stones and greens but city landmarks look amazing too. Go to your favorite place, that will make you feel more comfortable.
