My favorite things about fall are the changing colors of leaves, warm drinks, pumpkins and coziness. Those ingredients are present in my autumnal plans. Fortunately, the variety of things to do in Madrid this November includes all of that so we can make the most of autumnal weather in the city. Today I want to share with you new places I've discovered in Madrid that you can't miss this fall.
While living in the US, I discovered pumpkin patches, now that I'm back in Spain it's one of those things I miss a lot. I really hope someone comes up with the idea and starts organizing pumpkin fests here too.
WHAT TO DO IN MADRID IN NOVEMBER: VISIT THE ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS
The closest thing I've found to pumpkin patches is this pumpkin display in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Madrid. It's a beautiful arrangement of all sorts of pumpkins that is worth seeing. The exhibit is going to be there till the pumpkins start going bad so you still have some time to stop by.The whole Botanic Gardens are a joy to behold this season. The beautiful flowers you could see in the summer are not there anymore but fall foliage is equally stunning. There was this particular tree with yellow leaves that with a small wind blow the leaves started falling as if it was snowing, it was magical.
There's a really cute shop and cafeteria in the Botanic Gardens where you can have tea and eat seasonal dishes like this pumpkin soup. It's pricey but the quality is great so definitely worth it. If it's warm enough you can sit outside and enjoy the gardens while sipping coffee.
WHAT TO DO IN MADRID IN NOVEMBER: HAVE A COZY MEAL
Another discovery I made this weekend was the new restaurant Casa Galleta. It belongs to the same group as El Canadiense and El Perro la Galleta. It has a similar style as those too but a different concept. This is what we call in Spanish: casa de comidas. It's a traditional restaurant with rustic country decor. Casa Galleta is a casa de comidas with a twist. All that is traditional is the decor, the menu is quite modern. My husband and I chose this place because we are big fans of the other two and it did not disappoint. In fact, we liked it so much that we've booked a table for a meal with friends we have in a couple of weeks. Apart from the food, we loved the ambiance, we felt as cozy as at home. Husband and I shared the eggplant battered in biscuit with Pomodoro sauce and Parmesan cheese and the stuffed mushrooms filled with zucchini, truffle cheese, tomato tartar and pesto. Then I had grilled squid risotto and my husband ordered the burger. Finally, we shared the cheesecake. There wasn't a single thing we didn't like.
Oh, and like in their other restaurants, dogs are allowed!

These places sound amazing to visit. I love food so any time you mention eating, I wish I could be there! We don't have pumpkin patches in the Philippines either and it took me to have a kid before I visited one here in the US! Even then it wasn't until my son was two before it happened and now am kicking myself for missing out! Your scarf is beautiful and love your shoes! The caramel color is beautiful and the leather looks so supple. I hope you are having a great week so far and I am so glad it's almost Friday.

Ahhh, that dessert looks so delicious!! I'm so sad because we were supposed to be leaving for Spain on Friday, but the airline changed our flights and so we decided to skip the trip in favor of a better time later on. It looks like November is a great month to visit though, so we'll have to keep that in mind! #TheWeeklyPostcard
ReplyDeleteNot only do the desserts at Casa Galleta look amazing, but the atmosphere also looks incredible. I love the vintage feel and style throughout the decor. It really sets the tone for fall!
ReplyDeleteI also admire your scarf. It has a great artistic feel to it! #TheWeeklyPostcard

What an interesting and rich display of items to decorate the walls and shelves of that restaurant. Look at all those old vintage radios, for example. I wonder what the inspiration was? Such a find in Madrid, thanks for sharing. #TheWeeklyPostcard
ReplyDeleteI do love the fall colors and pumpkins! The pumpkin soup sounds really good. The restaurant you tried sounds fabulous too, making a note of that one for the next time I am in Madrid. Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard
ReplyDeleteYour posts are always filled with the best photos and places. Love love all the food you described, the gorgeous Autumn-looking trees and all the gorgeous pumpkins which we have tons of in Michigan. But your outfit is the best. Tres chic, modern, easy to walk in and so European! Love the hat and as always you rock wearing a silky scarf!
ReplyDeleteWelcome by every Thursday to link up with me on Thursday Moda. Thanks and Happy Sunday!
Lots of beauty to behold in your post - with or without pumpkins. (I would miss them too) Thanks for visiting from Spain!
ReplyDeleteHi Christina, the Botanic gardens sound lovely. I like the thought of standing under a tree snowing it's autumnal leaves. The Casa Galleta looks nice and homely and there is no way I would have shared that cheesecake! It looks far to good for that.

Seems preferable to visit Madrid in late Autumn rather than at peak tourist season! Lovely shots!
